All right dammit, I'm back for more!
Back and madder than ever. This times my cockles are in their uproariest due to the apparent firing of an editor at Gamespot since he gave a negative review for Kane and Lynch. Should we be surprised by this? No of course not. When a site gives Black and White (still one of the worst games ever in my book) a 9+ rating you know they are in serious cahoots with the developers. But the apparent firing of a developer for not sucking the game's dick enough is just appalling. Add to that it might be Eidos themselves who asked them to get rid of the editor and that just stinks of serious foul play.
I hope this is a wake up call for the industry that something has to change. Surely there must be some way to separate the reviews from the revenue stream. Magazines publish ads for movies that they might disparage so why can't that be done here? Or perhaps there is something missing in the equation that I don't see.
Regardless, let me give you a quick review of the games I have had time to play (which admittedly is not that many)
Everquest 2: Rise of Kunark: Yes I still play this crack. Quite possibly their best expansion yet for EQ2. Tons of new quests for soloing and groups that actually make sense and don't require massive amounts of running, huge new zones, and tons of loot. I understand that WoW's last expansion did this too so if the MMOs are stealing from one another then more power to them since it leads to better content overall.
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars: It has been taking my friends and I a while to get warmed up to the final version since there is a huge disparity in the quality of players. But now that the non-team player types are starting to give up on the game it is really starting to take up more and more of our time as we tweak tactics, learn the maps more, and experiment with classes. Hopefully after the holidays we can delve into this in earnest for a proper review.
