Fallout 3 is not as great as the reviews state

If you like walking, interrupted by the occasional firefight where the targeting system (VATS) requires aiming at body parts to hit them and then doing super slow-mo Matrix crap each time you get a kill, then it's definitely for you.

Personally I find the VATS system garbage but since Fallout 3 is at its root an RPG (despite it's first person perspective), I can understand why it's there. When you target the bad guy you're calling the target then the chance to hit on each body part is your roll of the dice. However, I find it a bit of a waste since you have to get really close and personal with the bad guys to get a high percentage hit unless you just dump every single skill point you have into weapons.
And since bullets are worth more than gold as you wander around the wastelands and cities you have to make each shot count. Also, I thought this was 2008 but the majority of the story takes place in tunnels and caves like we're playing Quake 1 again.

I think the turn based element of Knights of Old Republic is a better mechanic for a game like this where critical hits are determined in the background rather than being jammed in your face each time you turn a corner and are face to face with a mutant.

Still, the really nice thing about the game is the story and more importantly if you get tired of the main storyline you can just take off and go find other things to do. There's all sorts of little nuggets of fun you can partake in while playing the game that have nothing to do with the main storyline so if you're easily distracted you might never finish this game and still have fun.

Provided I can slog through the rest of this game I'll try to write a review. From what I've read online I'm about half way through after already putting 30 hours into this game. I know people want more content in games but damn this is getting a bit repetitive.

A Boy and his Dog, aka Fallout 3

As a kid I played Wasteland but never played Fallout. But, I read about how Fallout 3 was pretty good so I took some money and purchased it. This game really needs to be good considering I used the money I had set aside for a game and bought this rather than Red Alert 3 or Left4Dead. Steam just finished downloading it so I guess I'll check it out tonight or tomorrow.

Plus, the long national nightmare is over. I dropped my EQ2 account finally. It expires at the end of the month. To make a clean and total break I just might auction my account on the Sony Store and see how much I can get for a raid geared healer. Who knows, might get $50 or something.

Violent video games make me violent

Violent video games make me violent apparently. Why I'm so mad I might just go hop in a car and run over some people, GTA4 style. Other violent things I will admit to having done:

1. Strapped a Post-it note on my crotch which has a smiley faced on it. Wore body armor and fired grenades at people with each explosion resulting in me yelling out "KA-BEWM!" in a Scottish brogue.

2. Airdropping out of a Blackhawk UH-60 then commandeering a tank and blowing up planes on the landing strip. I have then teabagged the corpses. Ferociously.

3. Starting World War III.

4. Lost all my memories only to find out that I'm an ultra-powerful Jedi who was once a dark Sith Lord. I then rounded up a band of miscreants including an assassin protocol droid and traipsed across the universe killing all those who stood in my way.

Oh my crimes against other humans are epic and I should be locked away or given Ritalin. Or both, whatever. Kids are dumb and violent who need strong parental controls. Less coddlin', more paddlin', plus there are ratings on the game so pay attention.

What violent crimes have you committed? Post 'em in the comments!

Thinning the herd

Well, I didn't think it would happen but even with a new EQ2 expansion coming out I don't feel like playing it all that much. Most of my friends don't play anymore, the guild I rolled with is gone, and raiding once a week is often difficult to do because of work and life. Is.. is this what they call having a real life? I don't like it daddy, make it stop!

However, TF2 and some PS3 gaming? Oh gotta make time for that. And quite possibly the Knights of the Old Republic MMO coming out sometime later. However, if they don't allow me to be a protocol droid who likes to dismember Jedi then I will have no part of it.
